Sub-Claims

Understand how sub-claims are handled in Tide

For an individual claim reference there can be one or many claims reported against it in a Bordereau. A frequent example where multiple claims are reported with the same Claim Reference is in Lineage Bordereaux.

In Tide, multiple claims of the same Claim Reference are termed Sub-Claims, it is important that they are correctly identified, so that when updates (such as an endorsement) are received they are allocated to the correct Sub-Claim record for update.

Recording Sub-Claims in Tide

Sub-Claims in Tide are identified using the field Sub-Claim Identifier. The field is populated through answering ‘Yes’ to the questions ‘Are there multiple entries for the same claim reference in the bordereau?’ in step 4 of the Claim Questionnaire.

If you answer ‘Yes’ to the above question, you are then asked to specify which Bordereau column(s) uniquely identify each Sub-Claim. This would ideally be an ID field, such as Location ID. But if this isn't provided in the Bordereau, then any other column or columns (you can select multiple columns when answering this question) can be selected to do this. For example, you might select the street address columns.

Updating Sub-Claims in Tide

If the Sub-Claim Identifier field is populated and an update is received, then Tide will always find the record to update by matching the Claim Reference and Sub-Risk Identifier(s). For example, if an Endorsement is received in relation to a record, then Tide will find the record to update by matching both the Risk Reference and Sub-Claim Identifier.
